St. Joseph’s Hospital North

Lutz
Florida

This full-service hospital offers emergency department, intensive care, surgical services, obstetrics, cath lab, imaging, and more, in a peaceful, healing and family-centered environment. Located in Lutz, just north of Tampa, the all-digital, state-of-the-art facility is specially designed to make patients and visitors as comfortable as possible during their hospital experience.

This acute care hospital features 108 all-private rooms and a full-service 30-bed emergency department. Key areas include two Medical/Surgical units, a Mother/Baby unit, an Intensive Care Unit, and two observation units for short stay patients. The Emergency Department includes 20 private treatment rooms and a 10-bed triage area.

The three-story, 352,000 SF hospital was designed for an additional two floors which can be added as needs grow. The project also included a 12,000 SF Central Energy Plant on site.

The structural system consists of composite steel reinforced floor with concrete shearwalls. The foundations are spread footings on soil improved with vibro-replacement. The primary exterior wall system is precast panels. The hospital was designed for enhanced hurricane wind loading to 140 mph and impact-resistant glass was used to protect the hospital from wind-borne debris.

A 60’ tall space-frame atrium with skylights is the signature architectural feature. It serves as the hospital gateway and connects the hospital to the medical office building.
