University of Central Florida Garage C Expansion

Orlando
Florida

The University of Central Florida is the largest university in the United States by total enrollment. With nearly 60,000 students enrolled and only 11,300 student parking spaces, finding room for additional student parking is a major focus for the university. The horizontal expansion of Garage C was needed to replace the 600 spaces of parking lost when the Global UCF Building was constructed.

In order to meet tight schedule and budget constraints, our team chose to use precast concrete for all structural support. The project also includes the addition of a new precast concrete elevator tower to improve accessibility. The team also utilized the existing ramping system allowing us to provide 100% flat floor parking in the expansion.

One challenge faced during the project was how to seamlessly tie into the existing garage column layout both at the new elevator tower and at existing driveways. Our team creatively used P-shaped columns to redistribute loads and adjusted new column locations along the perimeter of the building to solve these issues.
