University of Kansas Medical Center Olathe II Parking Garage
Walter P Moore designed a new four-level precast parking garage for the University of Kansas Medical Center to match the appearance of an existing adjacent parking garage that was constructed more than 20 years ago. The new parking garage provides access to the existing garage through the ground level at two locations. Although the upper most level of the two parking garages are connected, the intermediate levels of the new garage were adjusted to meet current head room requirements. The garage has three bays with multi-directional traffic in each bay. One bay is sloped between floors to provide vehicle access between levels while two stair towers provide vertical circulation through the new garage. From the upper level of the parking garage, a bridge over Olathe Boulevard connects to a new medical building for the University of Kansas Hospital.
Civil services included site grading, relocation of the public sanitary sewer main and existing utilities running through the site, connection of the garage water service line and storm sewer line to the public and private systems, a modular block retaining wall, and public street improvements. The street improvements included a new right turn lane and connection to Olathe Boulevard. A new storm sewer system was also designed along N Cambridge Street and the south property line.
