The new apartment buildings for the University of Tampa are a replacement for the smaller 3-story U-Shaped ResCom dormatory originally built in the 1980s for 234 beds. The new facility has 660 beds to serve the needs of 2,000 first year students coming into the University each year.

The project was constructed in three phases. Phase 1 has a 6-story and a partial 7th-story. Phase 2 adds 9- and 10-story wings and include the new grand lobby.

Demolition of the south wing of the ResCom dormatory began in May 2014 and Phase 1 of the new facility was completed in April 2015. The remaining two wings of ResCom were demolished in May 2015 and the remaining phase of the new Palms Apartments was completed in the summer of 2017.

Walter P Moore worked with the architect to create a close columns grid and a light 7” floor slab which allowed for a spread footing foundation rather than deep piles which resulted in significant savings for the owner.
