US-64 over 97th West Avenue Bridge Rehabilitation
US-64 over 97th West Avenue Bridge Rehabilitation
The Oklahoma Department of Transportation selected Walter P Moore to provide bridge rehabilitation services for the twin bridges that carry US-64 westbound and eastbound over S 97th West Avenue (also known as Adams Road) in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. Both bridges were comprehensively rehabilitated to the extent that the only original bridge elements left in place were the original steel piles. The major challenges our team created solutions to during this project included skewed superstructures with varying superelevation along the bridge decks, maintaining four lanes of traffic throughout construction, and removing and reconstructing cable barrier along the median.
To help avoid accidents and reduce risks to drivers, the vertical clearance was increased over the underlying route. For aesthetic appeal, decorative stamped concrete was incorporated into the concrete abutment slopes.
