Filled with natural light and innovative, safety-oriented features, the eight story cast-in-place concrete hospital, four story steel framed MOB, and pre-cast parking deck were built to replace the existing outdated facility in the community. The hospital houses 40 emergency exam and pediatric emergency exam rooms, four surgical suites, decentralized nursing stations, private inpatient rooms, administrative offices and a cafe. It is entirely electronic and was designed with the guiding purpose of being the safest hospital in the world – safe to patients and families, team members, the community and the environment.

This building also has the added complexity of an intermediate concrete moment frame due to its location and high importance. This factor required the engineering team to carefully detail the beam column joints to ensure that the requirements of the intermediate concrete moment frame would not create congestion concerns.

A central atrium is topped with a curtainwall sculpture supported by carefully designed and detailed steel framing, providing a signature beacon for people traveling to the facility and for those within.

The project uses geothermal heating/cooling as a part of its sustainable design and other LEED elements were used throughout the project. Wellstar Paulding is a Pebble Partner and Pebble Pioneer and the hospital was planned and designed using Evidence Based Design.
