Westpark Tollway at US 59 and IH 610

Houston
Texas

The US 59 and IH 610 interchange is one of the busiest interchanges in Texas, processing over 550,000 vehicles per day. This intersection is located southwest
of Downtown Houston and just south of the Uptown Houston Galleria area. The efficient operation and high level-of-service of this strategically located interchange is a necessity for the continuous economic growth of this area.

Schematic Design Phase
The schematic design phase of this project included analysis of existing freeway and ramp geometry and recommendations for improvements, such as new intersection layouts and relocation of existing ramps. InRoads and GEOPAK software were used to design all horizontal and vertical curves in order to meet TxDOT design criteria for speed and clearance requirements and to achieve economic design solutions.

Detailed Design Phase
Walter P Moore provided the construction plans and specifications package for the Westpark Tollway. This segment consists of a four-lane divided toll road that connects to the Uptown Houston area. This section is designed to go under the main lanes of US 59 and the ramps of the IH 610 interchange. This phase of the project included bridge design modifications, retaining wall design and layout, and complex hydraulic design. The Walter P Moore team also participated in analyzing the traffic control plan and construction sequencing.
