Wichita Falls Socioeconomic and Demographic Data Update

Wichita Falls

Walter P Moore led the effort to update the socioeconomic and demographic data for the Wichita Falls MPO in anticipation of their travel demand model update. Using the base year of 2015, our team produced the demographic data using the U.S. Census and American Community Survey (ACS) for population data and InfoUSA for employment data in the region. In addition to using sources such as the U.S. Census, we acquired new home permit data from cities to understand the growth that occurred in the region since the last model update. Forecast data was developed for 5 different years: 2020, 2025, 2030, 2045, and 2050.

Using CommunityVIZ, a GIS-based growth allocation tool, our team was able to allocate each of the forecast year demographics in a simple and technical process using information we gathered through a geographic analysis and input from MPO staff and the MPO Technical Committee. This methodology provided the MPO with a quantitative method for determining where growth will occur and takes the guessing out of assigning demographic allocation.
