As the Director of Traffic/ITS/Planning for Walter P Moore, Thomas oversees the traffic engineers and transportation planning groups located in Houston, Dallas, and El Paso, Texas; Kansas City, Missouri; and Pune, India. Having joined the firm in 2015, he has more than 20 years of engineering experience in traffic design, analysis, planning, and operations for various local governments, highway departments, and metropolitan planning organizations. Thomas has successfully managed numerous complex projects encompassing data collection and forecasting, traffic simulations, and the design, planning, and development of road realignments, rail crossings, and intelligent transportation systems. 

Although he’s a diehard Texan, Thomas is also licensed in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Kentucky, Mississippi, Nevada, New York, Oklahoma, and Texas. 

What gives you the most satisfaction in your work?
I get satisfaction in seeing a project grow from an idea on a page into something concrete in the ground benefiting the public. It amazes me how an infrastructure improvement benefits both residents and businesses helping create sustainable communities.
What’s your favorite way to pass time?
We enjoy hiking, watching movies, attending sporting events, and the occasional lazy day. Having three active children means most “free time” is at dance, baseball, or football practice. My family and I also regularly volunteer at church and support the Big Love Cancer organization.
If you had to choose a different career, what would it be?
If I was not an engineer, I would likely be a high school football coach. I’ve always loved the sport and was heavily influenced by the various coaches from my youth.
