Erik Verboon (1979 – 2025)
It is with deep sadness that we share the sudden passing of our colleague and friend, Erik Verboon, AIA, Director of Enclosure Engineering in Walter P Moore’s New York office and a Senior Principal in our firm.
Erik was a dynamic leader, mentor, and creative force in our industry. Trained in architecture and engineering, he established an international reputation for designing advanced, high-performance, and complex building envelopes. For over twenty years, Erik has guided teams and clients alike with expertise, creativity, and a visionary approach. His career portfolio spanned numerous sectors and included lauded built work in both New York City and across the globe.
In 2020, Erik was promoted as lead of our firm’s Enclosure Engineering team, reflecting both his technical mastery and his ability to elevate others. He sought opportunities to advance those around him to their full potential, investing time and commitment to ensure his team thrived. Colleagues across the firm remember him as someone who could both set the strategic direction and bring joy to the process—someone you could count on to lift the energy in the room and draw people in with his enthusiasm.
Erik made an impact on our firm, his profession, and the lives of everyone who knew him. His presence carried energy, warmth, and a rare ability to make people feel seen. He made extraordinary efforts to serve our clients while sparking excitement and motivation, drawing people into conversation, and leaving them inspired.
He shaped not only buildings but also the next generation of designers and engineers through his teaching, mentoring, and leadership.
Erik leaves behind a powerful legacy of design excellence, team leadership, and human connection. He will be deeply missed across Walter P Moore and the broader design community.
Above all, he loved his family. Erik’s wife and two sons were the center of his life, and our thoughts are with them as we honor his memory.
Details on honoring Erik’s memory are shared in his obituary.
