Walter P Moore Projects Win 2022 PCI Design Awards

April 21, 2022

For 59 years, the Precast Concrete Institute Design Awards have showcased and recognized the creative and innovative use of precast concrete. In 2022, 42 projects demonstrated design excellence, forward-thinking, and construction quality by utilizing precast concrete in all types of structures.

This year, three of Walter P Moore's projects were honored with a Design Awards in their respective chapters.

St. Joseph Hospital North

The project included 316 architectural precast concrete pieces, with an additional feature of a three-dimensional, prefabricated precast concrete skin that pushed the boundaries between design and manufacturing. The design team used precast glass-fiber reinforced concrete (GFRC) to ensure the columns had the same quality of architectural finish as the precast concrete panels.

Carapace Pavilion

The project included five precast concrete elements for the high-seismic environment and because it's in a national park, upkeep and repair requirements had to be minimal. The team designed a precast concrete structure that could meet all requirements while blending effortlessly into the curvilinear forms and colors of the natural rock landscape in the park.
