Walter P Moore proudly announces that Jonathan Bergey, PE has been named the 2022 recipient of the Javier F. Horvilleur Outstanding Young Professional Award. The Horvilleur Award is presented annually to one young professional at the firm who has exemplified excellence in technical design, client service, and business acumen. The award is named for and is in appreciative memory of Javier F. Horvilleur, PE (1954-2002), who was an inspirational leader-engineer at the firm for over two decades.

The award was presented by selection committee chair Viral Patel, Managing Principal and Director of Design for the Structures Group, and Bart Miller, National Sports Market Leader and Managing Director for the Denver office. The presentation was made at the annual Structures Group Operations Dinner held in Houston on September 29, 2022.

Bergey is a Senior Associate and Senior Engineer in Walter P Moore’s Denver office and has excelled in the role of lead analyst/designer among large, multi-office teams on several major projects, including the Intuit Dome (Los Angeles Clippers NBA Arena), Fiserv Forum (Milwaukee Bucks NBA Arena), Acrisure Arena (Coachella Valley Firebirds AHL Arena), and the University of Oregon Indoor Football Practice Facility.

“As a leader in the Denver office and an essential piece of our project delivery teams, Jonathan shoulders responsibilities for quality, client service, and business results that are significantly beyond his years. He is tasked with the most complex technical challenges on our most technically challenging projects, ensuring the quality and accuracy of the work of others on our teams, and developing new tools and processes that make our work product more efficient, consistent, and profitable,” says Miller.

Additionally, Bergey serves as the Office Design Manager in the Denver office providing Quality Assurance/Quality Control reviews analysis models and construction documents, investigating and determining the appropriate direction for our projects’ most unusual or challenging technical aspects. He is sought after as a mentor for technical staff and others due to his role and impact on several large, multi-office project teams.

Bergey is a licensed engineer in Texas and holds a master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of California Berkeley and undergraduate degrees in architectural engineering and architecture from the University of Texas at Austin.
