Structural engineering leader to guide the firm’s Washington, DC practice
Overview
Walter P Moore named Melissa Shea, PE, Managing Director of Structural Engineering in its Washington, DC office. In this role, she is bringing together the team’s expertise in healthcare, sports, aviation, and sustainable design to help clients evaluate competing choices through data-informed design and a broader understanding of their project goals.
Shea has led integrated teams in delivering regional projects, including Cedar Hill Regional Medical Center, VCU Health’s Adult Outpatient Pavilion, and the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU Wonder Tower, with additional experience across aviation, commercial, sports, and cultural facilities. Working with multidisciplinary teams, she uses data and digital tools to compare solutions through multiple lenses, including embodied carbon, cost, constructability, and alignment with client goals, helping teams turn design ambitions into informed, buildable solutions.
Under Shea’s leadership, the team will continue serving clients across the region, including the Washington Commanders, Dulles and Reagan National airports, Inova, and VCU Health. By connecting local market knowledge with specialized expertise from across the firm, the practice will help clients make informed decisions and deliver projects that reflect their goals and create lasting community value.
