Walter P Moore Recognized for Several ACEC 2024 State Chapter Engineering Excellence Awards

November 20, 2023

Every year, engineering firms submit their projects to the appropriate state chapter of the American Council of Engineering Companies, to showcase innovation, creative problem-solving, and engineering's unique ability to improve our world.

We are pleased to announce that this year, four Walter P Moore projects were honored with a state award in their respective chapters.

CALIFORNIA

Acrisure Arena is a 10,000-seat, multi-purpose sports and entertainment venue located in Coachella Valley, California. The arena is home to the American Hockey League Coachella Valley Firebirds. This sophisticated and flexible show rigging grid has a greater capacity than many of the venues in much larger markets, making it an ideal location for launching West Coast tours. The arena has received rave reviews from the public, players, and the numerous music industry stars who have played sold-out concerts in it. Acrisure Arena has firmly established itself as an entertainment asset in Coachella Valley.

TEXAS

Two projects were also recognized and received Gold Awards from ACEC Texas

Kinder Land Bridge at Memorial Parksits in the heart of Houston’s enormous Memorial Park. It spans over Memorial Drive, a winding six-lane throughway that had been the park’s most divisive and dangerous feature for 70 years. The land bridge, which is composed of two pairs of cylindrical tunnels—the west pair is 571 feet long and the east pair is 417 feet long—overtopped with soil fill, enabled a transformative project of almost 100 acres that reunited the long-separated sides of the park, providing a safe crossing for both people and animals. The project provides enhanced recreation opportunities for park users as well as a brilliant new skyline viewing spot.

Steelhouse Omaha, a live music venue managed by Omaha Performing Arts, is a new facility designed to host high-quality performances and entertainment. The design team drew inspiration from Omaha's industrial roots which is reflected in the venue's aesthetic. One of the standout features of Steelhouse Omaha is its main performance space, which can accommodate up to 3,000 guests. This versatile area offers a range of seating and standing options with an emphasis on acoustics, ensuring an unforgettable experience for the community and its patrons.

VIRGINIA

Wonder Tower at Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCUembarked on a mission to enhance patient accessibility and experience. The 86-bed tower increased the capacity for imaging services, operating rooms, family amenities, as well as multiple collaboration, and educational spaces. A standout feature is the enclosed 280-foot pedestrian skybridge linking the tower to the VCU Medical Center Main Hospital. This innovative addition streamlines access for patients and staff and facilitates swift emergency response. Our engineers intricately designed the bridge, navigating utility considerations and seamless integration with the existing hospital.
