Overview
ENR West has named Intuit Dome, future home of the LA Clippers, its 2025 Southern California Project of the Year, recognizing the arena’s groundbreaking design, community impact, and next-generation approach to fan-centered sports experiences. Walter P Moore served as the structural engineer for the 1.1-million-sq-ft venue, working alongside the project team to deliver a facility that redefines what a modern arena can be.
Designed to bring fans closer to the action—and the energy—Intuit Dome’s bold architectural expression is driven by a 2,700-ton diagrid steel shell inspired by a basketball net. The diagrid forms an iconic exterior identity while supporting an immersive, bowl-forward environment inside.
A key innovation included a toggle-brace connection system at Levels 4 and 7, enabling the diagrid to respond safely and independently during seismic activity. The arena’s roof structure features seven 120-ton primary trusses, erected from within the bowl, a choreographed approach that optimized sequencing, logistics, and safety on a tight urban site.
Beyond its structural achievements, Intuit Dome sets a new benchmark for sustainable sports venues. It is the first NBA arena to achieve LEED Platinum certification, powered by an all-electric system supported by on-site energy storage and rooftop solar, and built with rigorous materials transparency requirements.
This recognition reflects the commitment of the entire project team. As ENR noted, “Intuit Dome isn’t just an arena, it’s a defining project for what construction can achieve in shaping lasting sustainability and community impact.”
Intuit Dome showcases the results of coordinated design, advanced analysis, and technical execution at every level. The structure’s precision and performance reflect a shared commitment to innovation, efficiency, and lasting impact on the built environment.
