Overview
Following a Category 5 hurricane impacting airport facilities in Jamaica, Walter P Moore was engaged to perform post-event engineering assessments in support of recovery and claims-related decision-making. Our role focused on documenting asset condition, evaluating damage across critical systems, and providing technically defensible findings in an environment defined by catastrophic impacts, limited access, and the need for timely, reliable conclusions.
Services
Challenges
Severe Storm Damage
Extreme wind and rainfall affected buildings, infrastructure, and systems across active airport environments.
Utility and Access Constraints
Disruptions to power, communications, and site access limited inspection windows and on-site coordination.
Large, Complex Assets
Airports included a wide range of structural, civil, and system components requiring consistent evaluation criteria.
Decision-Critical Timelines
Stakeholders required early clarity to support recovery planning, claims evaluation, and repair prioritization.
Solutions
Independent Condition Evaluation
Engineers conducted field assessments to document damage and assess performance of airport assets following the event.
Consistent Documentation Methods
Standardized digital workflows supported traceable evidence capture and reliable comparison across facilities.
Integrated Technical Review
Field findings were paired with engineering judgment to support well-founded conclusions and reporting.
Multidisciplinary Expertise
Specialists evaluated structures, infrastructure, and building systems to deliver a coordinated technical perspective.
Results
Defensible Damage Records
Engineering documentation established a clear basis for damage scope and asset condition.
Informed Cost Frameworks
Findings supported development of cost estimates and actual cash value determinations grounded in engineering analysis.
Timely Decision Support
Results were delivered on accelerated timelines to inform recovery, repair, and claims-related decisions.
Repeatable Digital Evidence
Digital records enabled ongoing review, measurement, and validation without repeated site access.
Coordinated Asset Insight
Comprehensive assessments supported a clear understanding of impacts across airport facilities and systems.
