ACEC 2020 Engineering Excellence Award Winners

Overview

Each year, engineering and design firms submit their proudest projects to the appropriate state chapter of the American Council of Civil Engineering Companies, hoping to showcase their expertise by winning an Engineering Excellence Award.

This year, five Walter P Moore projects were honored with a state award in their respective chapters.

MISSOURI

Allianz Field, pictured above, was recognized as a 2020 ACEC Missouri Grand Award winner.

Built on a redeveloped brownfield site, Allianz Field became the first dedicated soccer stadium in Minnesota when it opened in 2019. Its innovative cladding material and superior design allow it to compete with the best international venues in the world.

TEXAS

Two projects also received Gold Awards from ACEC Texas.

Hilton Overhead Walkway allows visitors to walk from the Austin Hilton to the Austin Convention Center with uninterrupted views of the Austin skyline. This functional work of art serves as a “gateway to Austin” to visitors who arrive by rail.

Almeda Road Reconstruction focused on a portion of Almeda Road from MacGregor to Old Spanish Trail, a major artery to and from Texas Medical Center.

The Southeast Houston Mobility Plan identified short, medium, and long-range projects, policies, and programs intended to promote better mobility for all road users, and received a Silver Award.

KANSAS

Lakehurst Neighborhood Street Improvements is a 2020 ACEC Kansas Engineering Excellence Award winner.

In Olathe, Kansas’s Lakehurst neighborhood, 2,200 linear feet of roadway in was reconstructed with the primary goal of improving vehicular and pedestrian facilities.

GEORGIA

Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital and the Pearl Tourville Women’s Pavilion

In addition to state honors, these projects also received national recognition from ACEC.
