Walter P Moore provided structural engineering services for this new training facility with corporate offices for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Located on a portion of the former Tampa Bay Center mall site along Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, this new $32 million design/build facility consists of three buildings: Main Building (One Buc Place Corporate Office), Maintenance Building and Weight / Central Energy Plant.

The Bucs’ new home also has three natural grass practice fields (all equipped with lights), space for 70 permanent lockers, and a 10,000-square-foot weight room. Other amenities include a team dining room, a draft room, three hydrotherapy pools, and a team auditorium measuring 4,000 square-feet.

The monumental football entry presented an interesting challenge to the team. The design called for the 55 foot tall football to slice through the primary structure of the building, but how it would precisely do so was difficult to see using traditional 2D drawings. 3D modeling was just becoming available in CADD, so the Walter P Moore team chose to develop a 3D model of this unique section of the building to help the entire design and construction team determine precisely how the iconic entry would work. Ultimately the model was used by the architect, contractor and steel detailer resulting in less waste of materials and time in the field.
