The University of Houston is a Tier One Research University strategically located between the nation’s 4th largest city and NASA’s Johnson Space Center. UH is home to over 46,000 students and has experienced tremendous growth in enrollment putting a significant strain on existing parking resources.

When the University of Houston solicited a design partner for their 5th parking structure and School of Art Studio, they turned to Walter P Moore. The five level precast garage is designed with an innovative cascading ramping system that can efficiently accommodate a mix of students, faculty, staff and visitors while providing a high level of service. The ramps are conveniently located near one of the main traffic arteries to provide easy access to and from the main campus.

As part of the project, the University of Houston constructed a new 43,000 SF facility that will house UH Parking and Transportation, Public Art Office suites and student exhibition space to showcase student art projects. The public art space, or “maker space” will provide a viewing experience to the public as students hone their art skills.
Walter P Moore has been a valuable partner to UH Parking and Transportation having provided parking and transportation master planning, parking design and engineering services on four of the five parking structures on the main campus.
