As a civil engineering intern with our organization, you will work as a member of project teams responsible for designing a range of civil/land or site development projects, such as large and small-scale commercial and institutional developments.

Walter P Moore has an immediate opening for a Design Manager to join their dynamic Structural Engineering team. The qualified candidate will between 9 - 12 years’ relevant experience working on design of office buildings, healthcare facilities, sports venues and other large commercial structures with construction costs of $25 million and up.  

We seek well prepared students of top engineering schools to expand their education in structural engineering through the internship program offered at Walter P Moore. As an engineering intern in our structural engineering group, you will participate on project teams for architectural projects of all types, including commercial, sports, healthcare, and public assembly buildings. You will also be eligible to participate in our in-house staff development program.

• Perform engineering calculations and cost estimates.
• Prepare drawings, layouts, and other engineering drafting.
• Assist in developing plans and reports.
• Assist in collecting data and research utility records.
• Help in design, production, and miscellaneous organizational work.

In this position, the Traffic Engineer will work with a team of engineers and technicians designing and producing a variety of traffic engineering design projects.  The responsibilities will include assisting in analysis, design and implementation of traffic engineering projects such as traffic impact studies, traffic operations studies, capacity analysis, traffic signal design, signal timing, signing, striping, lighting and traffic control plans.

Additional requirements and position responsibilities include:

• Management of land/site development projects, including technical design, quality control, and project management
• Business development activities and assignments concentrated in a specific target area
• Project client interface
• Financial management of projects
• Working with the team to set goals to meet business objectives
• City of Houston and/or Harris County design process experience required

• Manage a group of engineers in the pursuit of water resources, drainage, hydrology and hydraulics design related projects and the related clients;
• Proficient understanding and knowledge of frequently used software such as HEC programs, XP-SWMM, MOUSE, etc. and how the use of each addresses water resources issues.

They will perform building performance analysis including evaluate daylighting, solar heat gain, thermal energy transfer, and holistic integration of the enclosure with building mechanical, lighting, and plumbing systems.A sound technical background and excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
