The building envelope is the first line of defense in effective and efficient management of energy. Advanced study of façade design alternatives and an understanding of building use patterns can yield high-performance façade designs which minimize energy consumption and reduce operating costs. Thermal insulation (resistance to heat flow) and heat capacity of materials (absorption of thermal energy) must be considered in building envelope design. Walter P Moore uses diverse state-of-the-art simulation tools to measure and predict building façade performance. We consider factors such as site location, building geometry, occupancy type, solar exposure, thermal performance, acoustics, and life-cycle cost. Walter P Moore has extensive experience working with multidisciplinary project teams to evaluate designs, compare the energy performance of alternates, and provide feedback to improve energy performance.
