Ryan Anderson

Ryan Anderson, SE, DBIA

Principal
Structures

A key leader and Managing Director of Walter P Moore’s San Diego office, Ryan has served as Project Manager on some of Southern California’s largest and most complex projects. These include several substantial sports and entertainment projects that serve as economic catalysts for their communities. He specializes in the design of steel and concrete structures for a wide range of market sectors and building types including higher education, science and technology, sports, aviation, entertainment, hospitality, commercial, and seismic retrofit—among others.

His broader interest in the construction industryvast experience in design-build projects, and construction site experience have fostered his empathetic ability to envision the best outcomes for all stakeholders on a project rather than look only through the eyes of the structural engineer. As a DBIA Certified Professional, Ryan champions design-build efforts within DBIA and Walter P Moore’s Design-Build Community of Practice. He utilizes his interactions with contractors and the construction engineering services team to develop the most cost- and schedule-effective structural designs.

Outside of the office, Ryan is involved in the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA), Urban Land Institute (ULI), Structural Engineers Association of San Diego (SEAOSD), as well as previous involvement with the ACE Mentor Program.

What is your most memorable moment at Walter P Moore?
Attending my first game at SoFi stadium. It is such an incredible structural engineering and architectural marvel and made me very proud of all that we accomplished on the project.
If you had to choose a different career, what would it be?
I would be a basketball coach.
What inspired your career path?
I think I knew at an early age loving math, science, and Legos. Then in middle school and high school winning balsa wood bridge and tower competitions sealed my fate.
